What is Digital Media?

Here are the definitions of digital media that my tutor provided.

Reading that was very helpful. Before reading that I didn’t know what a multimedia production was.

This is a really concise definition:

‘Digitized content (text, graphics, audio, and video) that can be transmitted over internet or computer networks.’

Florida is well-known for its digital media. I wanted to look at http://www.dmaflorida.org/ but their site was down.

However I found this site which has a video of  ‘Jud French, executive director of Digital Media Alliance Florida’. ‘Digital Media Alliance Florida is a non-profit association of companies and professionals from the digital and interactive media, entertainment, arts, animation, effects and simulation communities working together to develop, grow and promote the digital media and interactive entertainment industry throughout the State of Florida.’

This video contains a definition of digital media.

Jud French says ‘digital media is the number one computerisation of traditional media so if you take cinema, you take radio, you take broadcasting, you take graphics etc and put digital in front of them, well, you have digital media. One of the things that characterises digital media is that it is often bi-directional in nature. Conventional media tends to be one to many but digital media has the opportunity to create networks and bi-directional communication and interaction with media. So that’s one of the most exciting aspects about it.’

I really like this definition because it tells me where digital media came from, what it is now and how it plays out in the real world. Very helpful.
