What music do Cyber goths listen to?

It has been difficult to find any really concise information on this apart from on Wikipedia. So I’ve decided I’m going to find out what music they listen to myself and write my own account of it. I am going to do this by scouring the internet and looking up sites myself.

ηενεя ωαитερ тσ ραиςε tells me that some examples of “Cyber goth”/Industrial bands are the following:

  • Icon of Coil
  • God Module
  • In Strict Confidence
  • Funker Vogt
  • Six Second Flood
  • Peoples Republic of Europe
  • Rotersand
  • Panzerveps
  • Grendel
  • Front Line Assembly
  • Kammarheit

I don’t have enough time to research about all the bands so I’m going to choose the first four bands on the list and listen to one song from each band. I’ll then report back what I hear.

The song Former Self by Icon of Coil has a fast beat and would be suitable for dancing to in clubs. The vocalist sings the lyrics in a smooth deep voice. There is quite a complicated fast beat. The electronic melody plays out alongside the fasts beats. Key lyrics are ‘And this ain’t me, hold myself down with a knife to my throat. And this ain’t me, standing alone as the drugs starts to work’. The music dips at one point, builds up and then drops back into full flow.

The song Skeptical by God Module has a very electronic sound, with noises that are hard to describe. It has a hard thumping beat. The beat is sort of mid tempo to fast. This song would be suitable to dance to in a club. There is a synth keyboard sound playing out the melody. The vocals are sort of growled. I’m not sure if the vocals have been put through technology to enhance the growl sound. Key lyrics are ‘I’m not like you, i want to pretend, that what we have here will never end, that we are perfect, we are divine, turn on the lights and we’ll be fine’.

The song Forbidden Fruit by In Strict Confidence has a medium speed beat. The vocalist sings out the lyrics in a deep smooth voice. I think this song might be a bit slow to dance to in a club but I’m no expert. This song sounds electronic. It sounds as if there are guitars in some points. Key lyrics ‘Taste forbidden fruit, the sweetest sin of all, oh, so hard they come and so hard they fall’. The lyrics remind me of a poem. Some parts have just female voices singing and it sounds quite ethereal.

The song Tragic Hero by Funker Vogt has a fast thumping snare beat. It has a lot of electronic sounding noises. The melody sounds as though it’s being played out on a synth keyboard. The vocals sound quite like a growl and may have been altered using technology to enhance the growl. This song would be suitable for a club. Key lyrics ‘I’m a tragic hero, in this game called life, my chances go to zero, but I will always survive’. One part of the melody sounds like its playing out on a synth trumpet.

One thing I notice about these four songs is the way in which the lyrics are sung, it really reminds me of poetry.
